Fran & Ian

Glen-Yr-Afon House Hotel

Myself and Rhys couldn’t have spent our last wedding of 2017 with a better couple! Such a fun day was shared with these two beauties. The threat of wind and rain failed to materialise, making way for a wonderfully crisp winters day, complimenting Glen Yr Afon’s festive decor. Congratulations again guys!

How did he propose?

Ian proposed on Christmas Day 2016. He proposed by giving me a present before leaving the house to spend a day with family. Inside were numerous boxes wrapped up and when I opened the final box it contained the ring box with the ring inside. When I opened the ring box he popped the question.

What’s your favourite memory together before the wedding day?

Our trip to Barcelona for Ian’s 30th Birthday. The weather was amazing, the sights were incredible and it was topped off with a trip to Nou Camp to watch the Spanish Super cup second leg with Barca winning 3-0.

Did you have a theme? If so, why did you choose this theme?

We had a navy and silver theme. We wanted to avoid the traditional Christmas wedding theme and decided to aim it more towards New Year glitz. The bridesmaid dresses were a compromise between silver and navy with them being ice blue. Originally I wanted a lavender grey theme but only incorporated this colour into my bouquet.

What is your favourite memory from the day?

Ian – seeing each other for the first time that day. Fran – seeing each other for the first time but also our first dance as we just enjoyed every moment and added in some silly dance moves that just show us as a couple having fun.

Were there any pleasant surprises?

My wedding present from Ian was a lovely surprise. He text me during the wedding morning with the message, “A gift for you from me, in the place where presents should be”. Hidden underneath the Christmas tree was a box wrapped up which was a lovely nod to how we got engaged. Inside were some Pandora earrings which I wore on the day and a pair of high top sequinned converse, which I changed into in the evening.

Why did you choose the venue you chose?

We wanted a local wedding representing good value for money. We’d been to the venue a few times previously for friends weddings and evening meals. We really loved the venue and booking within a year we managed to get a really good deal.

Any other special details / touches?

The night before the wedding, I went for a meal with my bridesmaids, friends and female members of my family. My aunty gave a me Tiffany box which had a broach which belonged to my great grandmother inside. It was a lovely way to incorporate her into the wedding as she passed away almost 9 years ago. I attached the broach to my bouquet.

Any advice to future brides and grooms?

Remember the day is about you! It’s so easy to listen to what other people say you should do and what you shouldn’t do, but at the end of the day it is about you as a couple!
